Speak up on May 10: What SAL Youth Activities Would You Like to See in Rosemont?

Come to this May 10, 2012 meeting and voice your thoughts about what youth activities should be implemented in Rosemont through SAL.

In recent months (and to aid in the fight against crime) members of the Rosemont community expressed a desire for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department to help implement youth activities in Rosemont.  The call was answered when Deputy Zach Hatch and Deputy Dana Vicory were assigned to help start youth activities under the umbrella of the Sheriff’s Activities League (SAL).  A steering committee has formed to lay the foundation of the program which will develop today’s youth into tomorrow’s leaders.

WHAT IS SAL?

SAL is a juvenile gang and crime prevention program that relies on athletic and academic activities to develop a bond between law enforcement officers and the youth in Rosemont. (Visit http://www.ssdsal.org/ to learn more.)  SAL is a coed, noncompetitive, FREE program that provides opportunities for kids to participate in a variety of activities.

Mission:
SAL will bridge the gap between law enforcement, kids and the community through sports and instructive activities and by establishing mentoring relationships.  The mission is to develop productive citizens, build character and prevent crime.  Studies have shown that children who interact with law enforcement officers in a positive way on the ball field or in the classroom will likely grow to respect the laws of the community that law enforcement officers enforce.

SAL will promote these values through the leadership of officers who work hands-on with the youth in the program, emphasizing the importance of life skills which provide positive enrichment.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

The Rosemont SAL program cannot get off the ground or be successful without the help of the Rosemont community.  As step one, community input is needed to
help decide what types of activities should be planned and implemented.  Please come and voice your thoughts at the following IMPORTANT meeting:

What..................... SAL Open Forum Meeting

When.....................Thursday, May 10, 2012

Time.......................6 p.m.

Where....................Albert Einstein Middle School (Cafeteria), 9325 Mirandy Drive

As the program is developed, volunteers will be needed in a

If you are interested in being kept informed and becoming
involved, please email Deputy Hatch at zhatch@sacsheriff.com.

Roberto, Looks like the discourse is losing steam. There's an article in today's Bee by PaulRead More Krugman (Nobel Prize winner for economics) titled "Austerity policy creating long-term unemployment." I'd be interested in your thoughts on Krugman's take on the debt issue you raised days ago.

Now, now Mark, no need to get personal. Tom brings some important facts to the table. Our nation'sRead More spending is uncontrolled in almost every area including defense. We're not managing our spending and revenue is in the toilet. If the administration continues at this pace, they'll be going to Mexico for our next loan.
