Taking Small Steps to Make Rosemont Safer

Bad things can happen anywhere–how can we step up to prevent them from happening in Rosemont?

Bad things can happen anywhere. Here in Rosemont and anywhere else you may be. However we can take steps to make it a little safer. So, instead of focusing on only the bad things that happen, let's pull together as a community to talk about safety and safe havens.

What we can do in our community to keep it a safer place to live:

  • Give our kids a safe place to go, to talk to authority figures if upset or being abused
  • Know your neighbors, neighborhoods, local officers
  • Curfew
  • Identify areas that should have more lighting, speed bumps and other safety items
  • Teach kids, teens, women and men to yell "FIRE" instead of just help, repeatedly to gain attention. NO, HELP and GET AWAY are good as well, but fire gets more attention. If you know an attacker use their name out load.
  • Let people know where you are going and who you are with at all times
  • More police presence and canvassing the neighborhoods
  • Neighborhood watch and support systems, a phone list
  • Identify areas where groups of menacing youth are gathering and casing neighborhoods
  • Pull together and help support your local law enforcement to protect our neighborhoods
  • Teach your children to respect the law and law enforcement officers
  • Walk with your head up, show confidence, and make eye contact
  • Speak up and take a stand when you see things that just aren't right: near someone's home, in the garage, walking down the street carrying items or rolling a bike while on another.
  • When all else fails...CALL 911 AND REPORT

Can you think of some that I have missed? Add your ideas. Let us work together and unite to protect our homes, our families, our communities and our children.
