Pamela Rose, an outstanding vocalist in the San Francisco Bay
Area, is plenty persuasive when she tells why she likes her new
album with B-3 organ player Wayne De La Cruz, Hammond Organ
Party! “It speaks to the things I love about the B-3... that sweet
spot where jazz and blues meet up, the soulful side of jazz.”

Indeed, Hammond Organ Party! unfolds as one long sweet spot
for these two musical partners and their regular cohorts: Jeff
Massanari on guitar, Kent Bryson on drums. There are numerous albums by B-3 players that
have a guest singer contributing a few tracks, but it’s rare to have
one that is an organ trio album with a singer from start to finish.

Rose sings in the deftly cadenced voice of a natural storyteller,
ratcheting up or coyly coddling various emotions with grace
and a true understanding of lyrics. For his part, De La Cruz
comes off as the perfect jazz-and-blues match for Rose, master-
fully generating rhythmic power that complements her elegant
yet probing singing style.

Now on a break from her globally acclaimed touring revue Wild
Women Of Song, Rose first drew inspiration from the B-3 a few
decades ago touring with organist Merl Saunders. With five
previous albums to her name, the singer has worked with many
talented musicians over the years.

However, this partnership on Hammond Organ Party! has prov-
en to be most capable and simpatico yet. Listen to how their
jazz and blues inclinations merge while swinging the musical
verities. Long may the musical partnership of Rose and De La
Cruz continue to flourish!
