Week in Review, Dec. 11: School News, New Sheriff, Homeless Shelter

A recap of the week ending Dec. 11.

What a week. We're just a few days away from turning a month old now, and we just saw the close of a week that included news about a local school, some good news about a Rosemont church helping the homeless community and some important info about the new sheriff.

  1. - This story shined some light on a local school's effort to give students and the community a connection to fresh produce.
  2. - In the first "answer" segment of 'You Ask, Rosemont Patch Answers,' we explained the tale of how the Rosemont Wolverines got their name.
  3. - This story was the first in a pair of articles about the new county sheriff's transition into office. Here, the retiring sheriff says goodbye to the county board of supervisors.
  4. - This is what Rosemont Patch is all about. We posed a simple question to five local shoppers, got a wide range of answers, and asked for more feedback online. The ensuing discussion gave everyone some great ideas on ways to improve this shopping center. It's not too late to add your voice.
  5. - The winter weather can be annoying to those of us driving to work every day, but imagine its impact on someone with nowhere to sleep at night. Here's how a local church is helping out.
  6. - The Rosemont High School boys basketball team hasn't had a lot of luck this season, but the team took down an out-of-town challenger last week.
  7. - It's a holiday classic that needs no introduction, but that doesn't mean the Rosemont High School drama students didn't work hard to produce this play.
  8. - It's a symptom of the fiscal problems felt by the county: Officials are looking for a way to increase the number of licensed animals in the county, but don't have the staff for an aggressive new approach. See what they're planning to try instead.
  9. - Consider it part two (but not the last) in the changing of the guard at the county law enforcement agency. The new top cop was sworn in on Dec. 10.

Office hours on Dec. 14

A quick reminder this week: From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 14 I'll be at the on Bradshaw Road. If you have something on your mind, know what we should be looking into, or want to tell me what an awesome (or terrible) job we're doing covering the community, stop by.
