Low-Cost Summer Camp Sponsored by Law Enforcement, Fire Agencies

Registration is currently open for the annual Kops-n-Kids Summer Camp, which will be held at Rosemont High School.

Registration opened this week for a low-cost summer camp put on by local law enforcement, fire and other agencies.

The annual Kops-n-Kids Summer Camp, a weeklong day camp for children ages 9-13, will be held at Rosemont High School this June. The camp focuses on "giving [children] the opportunity to interact with positive role models, experience sports clinics and participate in gang resistance, drug awareness, violence prevention and gun-avoidance activities," according to the camp's website. Organizers praised the low registration fees of the camp.

"Summer camp fees can easily reach over a thousand dollars a week," Sacramento County Senior Deputy Probation Officer Merril Emelio said in an e-mail. "Our camp is only $32 for an entire week of actives; in addition, we have a limited number of scholarships available to families in need."

The programs available at the camp are football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, dance, cheer, bicycling and martial arts.
