Grab and Go Kids Planner: Discover DNA, Watch 'Tron Legacy,' Free Library Events

Check out these fun, low or no-priced family events in and around Rosemont.

Kids' imaginations are constantly “on,” and in need of stimulation. From toddlers to teens, and those in between, here is a compilation of free and low-cost events happening in and around Rosemont this week. There's a free screening of “Tron Legacy,” a preschool storytime at the local library and DNA-themed weekend at the Discovery Museum. And more.

Preschool Storytime

Where/When: Arcade Library, 2443 Marconi Ave. / 10-10:45 a.m. on Thursday.

Why Go: For kids ages 3 to 5, there are stories, fingerplays, arts and crafts with a theme that changes weekly. Get the kids out of the house and their imaginations thriving.

'Tron Legacy' Movie Screening

Where/When: Sacramento State University Union Ballroom, 6000 J St. / 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Why Go: See an adventure/science fiction movie for free with your family and explore the Sacramento State University campus in the same outing.

Discover and Create DNA

Where/When: Discovery Museum of Science and Space, 3615 Auburn Blvd. / Noon - 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Why Go: Help celebrate the 1953 discovery of DNA by watching demonstrations, displays and enjoying hands-on activities. Kids can even make a DNA molecule to take home and keep their minds active.

Children 0-3: Free

Sleepytime Pajama Storytime

Where/When: Central Library, 828 I St. / 7 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Why Go: Get all cozy in your favorite pajamas, grab your favorite blanket or stuffed toy and enjoy stories and songs. Children of all ages are welcome to the free event.

Pricing: Free, parking at metered spaces is free after 6 p.m.

Go to the Drive-In

Where/When: West Wind Sacramento 6 Drive-In, 9616 Oates Dr. / Starting at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on weeknights.

Why Go: Enjoy a movie from the comfort of your car and give your kids a different movie-watching experience they surely won't forget.
