Sports Complex Could Open Near Rosemont

Sports Court Fitness Center, a 17,665-square-foot facility on 1.79 acres, might be coming to the Rosemont and Rancho Cordova area.

Sports Court Fitness Center, a brand new sports and fitness complex, might be coming to the Rosemont area.

Sacramento County staff members are recommending the planning commission approve the project, which could replace a vacant 25,000 square-foot building at 3727 Bradview Drive. The project's contractor, Buzz Oates Construction, would oversee its installation.

An existing elevator service and repair operation occupies a portion of the building where the proposed physical fitness studio would be located, according to a Planning Commission staff report. To meet current zoning codes, the two facilities are required to share 67 parking spaces; however, the property contains only 61 parking spaces. According to the staff report, the property to the north of the Sports Court requires only eight parking spaces but is developed with 53 spaces. The applicant has agreed to work with the property owner to the north to obtain a shared a parking agreement, and a condition of approval has been added to require such an agreement, according to the report.

The Cordova Community Planning Advisory Council [CPAC] met on Jan. 17 and unanimously approved of the proposed project. The CPAC commented that the use permit must address parking and that the County should determine if a pedestrian crossing is required on Old Placerville Road to provide safe crossing for children coming from nearby schools to use the gym facility, according to the staff report.

Planning Commission staff will meet again March 31 to review the proposal's progress and could make an official decision on that date.

Roberto, Looks like the discourse is losing steam. There's an article in today's Bee by PaulRead More Krugman (Nobel Prize winner for economics) titled "Austerity policy creating long-term unemployment." I'd be interested in your thoughts on Krugman's take on the debt issue you raised days ago.

Now, now Mark, no need to get personal. Tom brings some important facts to the table. Our nation'sRead More spending is uncontrolled in almost every area including defense. We're not managing our spending and revenue is in the toilet. If the administration continues at this pace, they'll be going to Mexico for our next loan.
