Old love letters, top-secret files or just plain old receipts can be destroyed Saturday at a free event near Rosemont.
The Golden 1 Credit Union is offering a free shredding event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at its headquarters at 8945 Cal Center Dr.
Up to five banker's boxes of CDs, DVDs and floppy disks can be destroyed for free by Iron Mountain, according to Golden 1's website.
"Help protect your personal information by having your old and unwanted documents securely destroyed," its website states.
The shredded items will be recycled, and refreshments will also be available.
