Going Local: 10 Father's Day Gift Ideas In and Around Rosemont

From gym memberships to pizza, a little thought goes a long way.

It's been said that the best gift one can bestow on Father's Day is the gift of solitude. To give him the day to himself, alone, free of responsiblity and the fervor that accompanies Hallmark holidays.

While that's certainly thoughtful, most fathers would probably appreciate a bit more thought and effort. For those last-minute gift ideas, the following is a compilation of ways to say "I love you" by treating you father – or significant other – to something special. And most are in or nearby Rosemont:

The gift of health: A healthy, active father is more likely to be around during those later years, so what better way to show him you care than providing the path. Rosemont has a fitness center with an indoor pool and racquetball courts at 24 Hour Fitness on Micron Aveune.  Get him a membership or a month pass, depending on the business' options, and soon enough he'll be off the couch and in shape.

The gift of insight: For the bookworm dads out there, there's nothing better than a gift certificate to his favorite book store or a copy of that one novel he's been itching to read. And if you're on a slim budget, some stores exchange used books for store credit, which you can hand right over to him. Check out The Book Den just outside of Rosemont for a selection of used books and DVDs.

The gift of variety: Restaurants typically aren't the zoo that they are on Mothers Day, so taking Pops out for a treat may be an easy task. And if he's an adventurous eater, sushi is a great way of showing your appreciation! Check out Ninja Sushi on Folsom Boulevard if he's agreeable.

The gift of convenience: While it's nice to go out and dine on special occasions, some dads are just as happy staying at home. But not on an empty stomach! will deliver their pies to your door and Strings Pizzeria does Italian takeout.

The gift of life: Plants are the perfect gift for anyone, on any occasion. Their mere presence elicits a sense of connection, joy and calm. And depending on the plant, upkeep is fairly minimal. You can challenge your dad with a Bonsai tree, or treat him with an edible fruit tree to plant, gardening tools or a gift certificate. Silverado Building Materials and Green Acres are great places to start.

The gift of reliability: Vehicles can be expensive to maintain, but worth the investment before something goes kerplunk. Get your father his car's next oil change or tune-up at A-Auto Service and Repair on Folsom Boulevard.

The Marks of this world are too blind to facts to bother arguing with. He thinks 4 generation ofRead More welfare and more people on food stamps then ever before in history is progress! What's the point acknowledging such absurd nonsense? Don't bother Roberto, complete waste of effort.

Nobody likes debt or an economy that is limping along. Obama has done an admirable job consideringRead More what he's had to put up with. The deficit has been reduced considerably. Stock market is as high as ever. Unemployment is still a big problem. Thank God we still have food stamps to help those people who have lost their jobs. Our bridges are falling apart. How about we invest in fixing our crumbling infrastructure, get those people back to work, get them spending, stimulate this economy. Oh, that's right, if Obama is for it, the opposition will automatically be against it (even if it's their idea!) .

Here we go - perfect example of a blind koolaid drinker. Listen to this: "The deficit has beenRead More reduced considerably" REALLY, then why has it doubled in the last few years? What planet are you from? "Thank God we still have food stamps to help those people who have lost their jobs." then "Obama has done an admirable job"....HELLOOOOOO! You can't have it both ways. My god we are lost if this is the mentality that is voting now - totally lost. I wish these types were routed out of the gene pool when things were tough and they would simply perish from stupidity. Now days thing are so easy they thrive and reproduce. Watch in 10 years how GREAT things are, just watch.
