Free Meals and Deals for Veterans

Vets, active-duty military and retirees can take advantage of restaurants' and retailers' freebies and discounts this weekend and Monday.

Many restaurant chains are offering free and discounted meals this Veterans Day to veterans and military service members, including some here in Rosemont. And retailers nationwide have special discounts and offers for those who have served their country.

Below is a listing of those available in the area; for a complete listing of businesses nationwide, check out the Army News Service's article. And if you know of others, please post in the comment section!

Also, be sure to bring applicable identification to receive your free meal or discount. Happy Veterans Day! 

Restaurants:

  • Applebees Veterans and active duty military can receive a free entree from a selected menu on Sunday.

  • Chilis Veterans and service members can receive a free meal from a special six-item menu on Veterans Day.

  • Krispy Kreme Get a free donut if you're a service member, retiree or veteran.

  • McCormick and Schmick's Seafood Restaurants Participating restaurants are offering an entree from a special menu to veterans, on a space-available basis, so online reservations are recommended.

  • Outback Steakhouse On Sunday and Monday, receive a free Bloomin Onion appetizer and Coca Cola beverage.

  • Subway Restaurants Receive a free six-inch sub or flatbread on Veterans Day (veterans only).

  • Texas Roadhouse On Veterans Day, receive a free lunch from the special veterans menu, plus a choice of soda, iced tea or coffee.

  • TGI Friday's Receive a free lunch on Veterans Day, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., from the lunch menu.

    Retailers:

  • Home Depot Receive a 10 percent discount (veterans only) on Veterans Day; Home Depot offers a 10 percent discount all year to active-duty military and retirees.

  • Lowes All veterans receive a 10 percent discount for purchases up to $5,000; a 10 percent discount is available all year to active-duty military and retirees.

  • Sam's Club From Friday to Monday, Sam's Club is giving away collapsible Hugo Canes to Veterans Day to military veterans.

  • Seven-Eleven On Veterans Day, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., veterans can receive a free small Slurpee.
