It's been a triumphant few months for many members of the LGBT community—what with President Obama coming out in support of gay marriage, followed by a federal appeals court striking down parts of the Defense of Marriage Act that denied benefits to same-sex couples.

While some will head to San Francisco for that city's Pride extravaganza later this month, there's nothing quite like celebrating at home. The Sacramento Pride Parade and Festival takes place Saturday on the Capitol Mall between 4th and 7th Streets.

If you're heading to Sacramento Pride, here's what to expect:

Schedule/Pricing: The parade starts at 11:00 a.m. at 4th and N St., and is free to attend. The festival lasts from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and costs $10, with proceeds benefiting the Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center.

Family Fun: Ages 5 and under get in free to the festival, where kids can enjoy a bounce house, face painting and more.

Ways to Work It: Performers including drag stars and a spoken word poet will entertain from the main stage, while DJs spin a range of music, from Latin to country, on two separate dance floors.

Dogs in Drag: Yup, you read right. Sacramento Animal Care Services staff will be dressing up adoptable pups for the parade, according to the event's Facebook page.

Plentiful After-Parties: Headhunters and Badlands are two of the venues hosting them.

Roberto, Looks like the discourse is losing steam. There's an article in today's Bee by PaulRead More Krugman (Nobel Prize winner for economics) titled "Austerity policy creating long-term unemployment." I'd be interested in your thoughts on Krugman's take on the debt issue you raised days ago.

Now, now Mark, no need to get personal. Tom brings some important facts to the table. Our nation'sRead More spending is uncontrolled in almost every area including defense. We're not managing our spending and revenue is in the toilet. If the administration continues at this pace, they'll be going to Mexico for our next loan.
