Weekend Planner: Awesome Athletes, Come Sale Away and More

Here's what's happening in and around Rosemont this weekend.

Happy June, everyone!  While it may not have started out in typically warm and sunny fashion, it's nonetheless a month of interest and change, with an upcoming full moon (on the 15th), Flag Day, Father's Day and the Summer Solstice.  We invite you to be a tourist in your own backyard and walk, bike or drive to these destinations for some fun-filled entertainment.  Are your relatives visiting from out of the country?  Take them to a yard sale or craft fair, where they'll find many treasures at bargain prices and leave with memorable stories about these American traditions to share with their friends back home; just two of the five possibilities for you this time around—here's to keeping it local!

1. Wacky Wii Friday!

Where/When: Arden-Dimick Library / 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday

Why Go: Kids and teen are invited to the library's Community Room to play Wii games on a big screen, including Mario Kart and the Just Dance games, too—what a perfect way to spend the afternoon.

Pricing: Free.

Where/When: 1560 N. Minnewawa Ave, Clovis, CA 93619 (Buchanan High School/Veterans Memorial Stadium) / 3 p.m. on Friday (gates open at 2 p.m.) and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday (gates open at 3:30 p.m.)

Why Go: Take to the road and catch this two-day event, where you'll watch the talented Cougar athletes as they wrap up the season with competitions in the areas of high, long and triple jumps, pole vault, relays, runs, dashes, shot put, high hurdles and discus.

Pricing: $7–$10 Friday; $8–$12 Saturday, plus $5 parking fee ($10 for RVs) each day.

Where/When: Sequoia Elementary School / 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday

Why Go: Support this local school during their inaugural event and get some great bargains on outfits, DVDs, CDs, shoes and more.  Got stuff to sell?  Rent out a 10' x 15' space for only $10 or double your area for $20.

Pricing: Free to attend; merchandise prices vary.

4. 

Where/When: 3720 Station St., Rancho Cordova / 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday

Why Go: This is the ultimate yard sale, including Mills Crossing and Pullman Drive, with nearly 50 homes participating for a second year in a row.  You'll sort through clothing, furniture, books, movies, music and other goods at discounted prices.  Put on your walking shoes and have at it.

Pricing: Free to attend; item prices vary.

5.

Where/When: Rancho Cordova Library / 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday

Why Go: Calling all adults 55 and older:  Come on out for an hour of memory sharing, talking about your favorite books and more.  Complimentary snacks will be provided; bring your friends and make some new ones, too.
