Ways to Give Back for Thanksgiving

Run or walk, but providing service to others is a surefire way to celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving.

If a slice of humble pie is on your Thanksgiving menu, the Sacramento area is teeming with volunteer opportunities. There are still spots in the annual Run to Feed the Hungry, and local food banks are always looking for donations and an extra hand.

The following is a roundup of ways to give back this holiday, feel free to share others you know of in the comments section!

Run to Feed the Hungry: This annual Thanksgiving morning 5K and 10K run could always use more runners. Volunteer spots have already been filled, so here's an excuse to get your feet and heart racing. Register here and help support the Sacramento Food Bank

Donate Food and Socks: To help out Loaves and Fishes prepare its annual Thanksgiving dinner, donations of food, utensils and socks are needed. "Whether you can bring a turkey, a baked pie, or just a bag of marshmallows, it makes a difference," the Loaves of Fishes website states. The big meal is Tuesday, so donate by Monday at the latest. Call (916) 446-0874 for more details.

To find more volunteer opportunities, check out the Volunteer Center of Sacramento, which connects volunteers with causes. Call (916) 567-3100 or contact the center at info@volunteersac.org.

Roberto, Looks like the discourse is losing steam. There's an article in today's Bee by PaulRead More Krugman (Nobel Prize winner for economics) titled "Austerity policy creating long-term unemployment." I'd be interested in your thoughts on Krugman's take on the debt issue you raised days ago.
