Rosemont Resident Creates Petition in Support of King's Skate Country

A local woman has created a petition asking for King's Skate Country's rent costs to be lowered.

Within hours of hearing about the of on Bradshaw Road, a local woman sprang into action.

Christina Pritchett, a Rosemont resident and occasional to this site, has started a petition asking for King's Skate Country's rent costs to be lowered.

She said the roller skating rink has been a big part of the lives of her children.

"To see it close down would be heartbreaking," Pritchett wrote in an e-mail. "When we attend the skate sessions on Friday and Saturday nights I see about 100 Rosemont faces that I have seen in the schools here. If it closes, where will these kids be able to hang out with their friends?"

She also said she's a "firm believer" in supporting local businesses.

Dan King, co-owner of the landmark roller rink, said Wednesday that his family plans to close King's Skate Country mainly because of lackluster business.

Pritchett brought the petition to a Parent, Teacher, Student Association meeting Wednesday and gained about 15 signatures.

Pritchett and other volunteers will be gathering signatures from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday in front of , 9137 Kiefer Blvd.

Those interested in getting involved may also download the petition to the right and return it to Pritchett on Saturday.
