May 5: Appreciation Breakfast, Optical Illusions, More

Find out what's happening in and around Rosemont today.

Happy Cinco de Mayo, Rosemont! Do you plan to celebrate the holiday today? Either way, there are plenty of things to do today. Enjoy a breakfast and thank those that work hard to keep us safe, check out some baseball or softball, eat out with your family, take your kids out to make some optical illusions or voice your concerns at the Board of Education meeting.

  1. Get up a little earlier today to pay tribute to your local Sacramento County law enforcement officers, prosecutors, probation officers, firefighters and all the others that help make our community safe. The 12th annual Public Safety and Community Appreciation Breakfast, hosted by the Sacramento County District Attorney, will be held at the Doubletree Hotel, 2001 Point West Way, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Breakfast costs $20 and tickets can be purchased by contacting Shelley Cooper at 916-874-7983.
  2. will be at it again today! The boys varsity and junior varsity baseball teams will take to the field today to take on Hiram Johnson High School. The game will begin at 4 p.m. with the junior varsity teams. You can also check out the girls varsity and junior varsity softball teams today at the same time! The girls will battle it out against El Camino Fundamental High School at 4 p.m.
  3. Have some Chinese food for dinner tonight and help support ! The school is partnering with  this week so you can enjoy a good meal and give back. Just print out this flier, or pick one up at the school’s office. Visit the restaurant between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., present the flier when you order and Golden Empire will receive 15 percent of your bill!  
  4. Got some crafty kids? Take them down to the Rancho Cordova Library today at 4 p.m. for their Optical Illusion Crafts! Your kids can learn how to make mind-bending toys like thaumatropes and flip books.  
  5. Let your voice be heard at the Sacramento City Unified School District’s Board of Education meeting today! Open session for the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and residents are encouraged to speak their mind about issues they’ve found in the schools. Click here for more details on the meeting, including an agenda. You can also find a live video broadcast of the meeting if you are unable to make it but still want to see what your Board of Education is up to.
