June 22: Free Dinner, Fresh Fruit, More

Find out what's happening in and around Rosemont today.

Good morning, Rosemont! Are you enjoying this beautiful summer weather? That’s right, we officially entered into summer yesterday. Celebrate the summer warmth today at Capital Christian Center, Cordova Church of the Nazarene, Rancho Cordova Library, Fairytale Town or the Downtown Farmer’s Market!

  1. There’s a multitude of positive activities for you and your family to enjoy at . The center will be offering a GriefShare Ministry to help you deal with the death of a loved one at 7 p.m., a 6:13 Wednesday night prayer to focus on the Ephesians 6:13 verse at (you guessed it!) 6:13 p.m., an adult Bible study group at 7:15 p.m. and many programs centered toward your children, from kindergarten students to teenagers. Check out the church's calendar for more information.
  2. Don’t have the money to go out tonight? Head over to  today from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a free dinner. The dinner is open to everyone, even if you just want to have a nice meal with others. The church offers free dinners every Wednesday, followed by fun activities for all ages.
  3. Spark your baby’s love for reading early with Rancho Cordova Library’s Baby and Me Storytime. Featuring rhymes, stories and sons for babies 6 to 24 months old, the story time will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. If your wee one is 3 to 5 years old, there’s a story time for him or her, too! From 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., bring your toddler down for stories, songs and crafts.
  4. Take in a show today—a puppet show, that is! Fairytale Town’s annual Puppet Art Theater will be ending this Sunday, so treat your wee ones to a little theater today. This week, the puppets will be taking on the children’s classic story of Jack and the Beanstalk. Shows run throughout the day at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Admission to the park is $4, free for members and children under 1, and show admission is an addition $2, $1 for members and children under 1 get in free.
  5. After the show, take your kids downtown to pick out some fresh fruit and veggies. The Sacramento Downtown Farmers Market will be running today from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Cesar Chavez Plaza, 10th and J Streets. Farmers from all over Northern California will be selling fresh fruit, produce, baked goods, flowers, herbs and cheeses. Get out of your grocery store rut and grab some of your favorite seasonal fruits and vegetables.
