July 19: Flex Your Green Thumb, Show off Your Talent, More

Good morning, Rosemont, and welcome back to “5 Things You Need to Know Today,” your daily dose of happenings in the area. Need to find a Bible study group? We’ve got you covered (well, the women at least)! Looking for a place to showcase your talent? Read on, we have the perfect open mic night for you. What else is on tap for today? There’s a summer garden work party, public pool hours and help for all you job-seekers out there.

  1. Ladies, if you’re looking an afternoon of religious study and companionship, look no further than . The church holds a Ladies Bible Study every Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. and all women are welcome to attend.
  2. Are you a great singer? Have a band? Or do you have some strange talent that you want to showcase? Check out  from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. for its weekly open mic night. Don’t want to be on stage? Come anyway, and see what kind of talent Rosemont has to offer!
  3. Put on your hat and gloves and head over to for its Community Garden Summer Work Party. Help weed, water and plant and make the garden grow into something children and the community can enjoy. Community garden workers will meet at 6:30 p.m. on the primary side of the school by the 4th R.
  4. Pack up the kids and the sunscreen and head to  today for the Cordova Recreation and Park District's public swim session. From now until August 12, the public is invited to swim in the school's pool from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is just $2 per per person, per visit, and if you're going to frequent the pool you can get a 10-punch card for $15, so head to Rosemont High and beat the heat!
  5. Having trouble finding that perfect job? The  has many resources for you to utilize. Stop by the library today from noon to 2 p.m. for some one-on-one help. Volunteers at the library will help you discover and use the library’s free job search tool, JobNow, as well as answer your questions and help you make your résumé shine.
