Grab and Go Kids Planner: Museums, Fairytale Town Goes Green, More

A list of kid-friendly activities including an art gallery, Fairytale Town going "green," Nanoscale Weekend at the Discovery Museum and more.

The kids must be bouncing off the walls with all this wet weather, so here is a compilation of fun, low-cost, kid-friendly activities to ease their energy levels. Most are indoors, educational, some are free and all are sure to please the kid in everyone.

NanoDays at the Discovery Museum

Where/When: Discovery Museum Science and Space Center, 3615 Auburn Blvd. / 12:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday

Why Go: NanoDays is a nationwide festival of education programs about nanoscale science and engineering. The museum is a member of the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network, and its classrooms will be full of hands-on activities to help families experience the nano-world.

Pricing: Adults: $6
Seniors and teens: $5
Children 4-12: $4
Children 3 and younger: Free

Fairytale Town Goes Green

Where/When: Fairytale Town, 3901 Land Park Dr. / 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday

Why Go: Fairytale Town is teaming up with several local organizations to spend the day promoting environmental awareness. The event will feature educational displays on global warming, conservation and pollution and kids will be able to take part in various free, recycled hands-on art activities. Local organizations will also have booths to discuss the green programs they offer and provide tips and tools on how to get started. Puppet Art Theater will also be performing “The Three Little Pigs,” with a conservation twist in the Children's Theater (puppet show times are 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.).

Pricing: $4.50 for general admission or free for members and children 1 and younger; puppet shows are $1 for members, $2 for non-members and children 1 and younger are free. Due to a city ordinance, adults must be accompanied by a child in order to visit.

Sakuramento Anime Sundays

Where/When: Rancho Cordova Library, 9845 Folsom Blvd. / 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Sunday

Why Go: Watch anime and anime music videos, play collectible card games, practice your art skills and make your own music videos. This is a teen-aged event, and is sponsored by the Sakuramento Anime Society and the library. Participants are asked to enter through the side for the community room door.

Pricing: Free

Wee Wednesday

Where/When: Crocker Art Museum, 216 O Street / 11 a.m. on March 30

Why Go: Bring yourself and little one to this gallery-based activity for kids 3 to 5. Funded by the First 5 Sacramento Commission, the program is free with museum admission. Space is limited, so sign up at the museum admission desk starting at 10 a.m.

Pricing: Museum admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and college students, $5 for kids 7 to 17 and free for kids up to age 6 and to members.

Baby and Me Storytime

Where/When: Rancho Cordova Library, 9845 Folsom Blvd. / 9:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. on Wednesdays

Why Go: For babies 6 months to 2 years old and their grown-ups, have a ball with rhymes, stories, songs and other language-building activities.
