Community Corner

April 5: Rosemont Community Association Meeting, Wii Games, More

Find out what's happening in and around Rosemont today.

Today people from all over the country are urged by shoemaker TOMS Shoes to go One Day Without Shoes to raise awareness about children in developing countries who have to go without. Of course, your outings may require a pair on your feet, but it’s worth thinking about those children and maybe finding out how you can help. Today, shoeless or not, you can enjoy some high school sports, learn more about community services, get involved in a parent-teacher group meeting or take your teen to the library for some Wii.

  1. It’s a perfect day to leave work early (but don’t tell your boss I said so) and catch some high school sports! ’s girls soccer team will host John F. Kennedy High School today at 4 p.m. The boys varsity tennis team will also be playing today against John F. Kennedy High at the same time.
  2. Maybe you prefer over Rosemont High. No worries, there’s still a girls soccer game to catch. At 4 p.m., the Cougars will take on West Campus High School at home.
  3. A different event will be held in Rosemont High’s cafeteria tonight—the . Beginning at 6:30 p.m., the event will feature informative booths from local agencies that service the Rosemont area, including SMUD, CalAm Water, the county Sherrif’s Department, Cordova Recreation and Parks District and more. Sacramento County Supervisor Don Notolli has been invited to speak at the meeting, and the RCA will also supply resources to help neighbors start a neighborhood watch on their block.
  4. The Parent-Teacher Group will meet tonight from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The school is always in need of volunteers to help with activities and fundraisers, so come show your support for the school by volunteering to help out or share some unique ideas.
  5. Tired of your teen spending their afternoon hours in front of the television? Send them to the Arden-Dimick Library today from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to get some much-needed social time. The library will allow teens to play Wii games like Rock Band with friends while enjoying some delicious snacks. And who knows, maybe your teen will pick up a new book before they leave!
