WELLS FARGO SUPPORTS REGIONAL EVENT TO PROVIDE MEALS FOR MALNOURISHED CHILDREN

ROCKLIN – A three-day, all-volunteer effort to pack a half-million meals for malnourished children around the world recently received a big boost from Wells Fargo.

The bank has donated enough money -- $10,000 – to pay for more than 45,000 meals at a MobilePack sponsored by the non-profit Feed My Starving Children and organized by local community members.

The contribution to the 2013 MobilePack is the largest sponsorship so far and the fourth year that Wells Fargo has provided a leadership sponsorship for the event, to be held from October 24 to 26 at William Jessup University in Rocklin. More than 2,500 community volunteers are expected to join together to pack the meals.

“Over the last three years, more than 5,000 volunteers have packed 1.3 million meals at our MobilePacks – making a life-saving difference in the lives of malnourished children,” said Michael Gebhardt, one of the leaders of this year’s MobilePack event. “This kind of effort is not possible without financial support like that provided by Wells Fargo. We appreciate Wells Fargo’s contribution, as well as having their employees join us to pack the meals.” 

“We are excited to once again partner with volunteers for this event, which brings together our community to learn about global hunger and do something about it,” said Denette Moser, Vice President and Regional Finance Manager for Wells Fargo. “We have enjoyed having many of our employees and their families pack meals and look forward to being a part of it once again.”

Feed My Starving Children is a Christian non-profit that distributes culturally-neutral, nutritious meals to nearly 70 countries through more than 70 missions and humanitarian agencies. In most cases, the free food is used to operate orphanages, schools, clinics, and community feeding programs that contribute to long-term community development. Information on the MobilePack is available at www.sacfmscmobilepack.org. In addition to volunteers, organizers are seeking business and civic groups who would like to both volunteer and sponsor meals. To cover the cost of 500,000 meals, organizers are working to raise $110,000.
