RHS Students Plan 'Wizard of Oz' Adaption by Former Teacher

The school is planning an adaption of "The Wizard of Oz."

Rosemont High School drama students will soon present "The Wizard of Oz," but it won't be the same version their parents are used to seeing on television. "We are presenting 'the Wizard of Oz and the Emerald City,' an adaptation of the Wizard of Oz by our former drama teacher, Ms. Dottie Bonneau, and a collaborative effort by [the Creative and Performing Arts] faculty, students and parents for the lyrics and music," drama teacher Ruth Cave-Sosa said in an email. Bonneau will be leading a version of the play in Davis this summer, according to the Davis Enterprise. Rosemont High School students will be able to get a sneak peek at the play on May 8 during second and third periods, Cave-Sosa said. The first performance of the play will be a $2…

Question of the Day

Will 'Hunger Games' Mania Hit Rosemont?

A local teen claims to be the book's No. 1 fan.

Either it'll be incredibly popular, or talking about its popularity will be popular. A media storm is brewing around the upcoming movie "Hunger Games," and one Rosemont teen told a local television station that she's the No. 1 fan of the series of books. "My one friend forced me to finish reading it in two days because she wanted to talk about it so bad," Albert Einstein Middle School student Alexis Pinkney told News10. That station's report repeats a refrain that the movie could be "bigger than Twilight," and the New York Times reported that Fandango was selling "10 tickets per second" to the film as of mid-day Thursday. That pace crowned it as the ticket website's best-selling non-sequel ever, according to Entertainment Weekly. The West …

Video: Does RHS Percussion Show Remind You of Flying?

The original composition helped the Wolverines land first place at a competition in Roseville.

Rosemont High School's winter percussion show is just five minutes long, but it's a lot more lively than the average in-flight entertainment. The Wolverines took first place in their class at a percussion competition at Roseville's Woodcreek High School over the weekend with "Flight," shown in the above video. "The music is all original, written by our battery instructor," band director Robin Wilmer said in an email. The winter color guard also took first place in the weekend's competition, Wilmer said. "The winter guard's show is called Diablo Rojo," she said. "Both groups placed first in their class, but the guard had stiffer competition. The guard scored 12 points ahead of their nearest rival. That is amazing considering some …

With support dwindling for the music programs in our schools it is becoming difficult for music educators to continue to run great programs. It's nice to see that Rosemont has both a Winter Percussion and Winter Guard ensemble. Having those two ensembles enhances the marching band which then enhances the concert bands. Studies have shown the numerous positive effects that involvement in music can…   more ›

Video: D&D Return to Rosemont High

The former student and his brother performed at Rosemont High School Thursday.

A Rosemont High School marching band class helped inspire one of the musicians behind a YouTube craze. D&D, Dominique and Darius Logan, were a part of the "Cat Daddy" music video that has topped 60 million views on YouTube. Their own video, "Now You See Me, Now You Don't," is currently featured on the front page of the video site World Star Hip Hop and has 9 million views on that site. On Thursday, the pair performed and took questions from students at Rosemont High School, where Dominique Logan played in the marching band and graduated in 2010. "He was always interested in this," said Band Director Robin Wilmer. "He was always looking for ways to express himself musically." Only students in the school's Creative and Performing Arts …
