CRPD Master Plan to be Discussed Wed.

The Cordova Recreation and Park District Board of Directors will meet Wednesday.

The Cordova Recreation and Park District Board of Directors will meet this week, for the first time since one of the district's employees was murdered as he arrived to work.

The board's previous meeting, scheduled for a few days after the Jan. 23 killing, was canceled.

Wednesday evening, the board is scheduled to accept the completed final draft of its Strategic Master Plan, a longterm vision for the organization.

The plan won't be adopted Wednesday, and the district will continue to accept comments until Feb. 28, according to a staff report.

Some of those comments may be from Rosemont residents. At last week's Rosemont Community Association meeting, some members said they were disappointed Rosemont and other areas outside of Rancho Cordova weren't addressed in the final draft of the master plan.

The 127-page master plan's final draft is attached to this article as a PDF.

Why is it a surprise that Rosemont and other areas outside of Rancho were not included. They never have been, and have always been an afterthought. Maybe it should be looked at again at disassociating ourselves once and for all from the CRPD.

Or become part of Rancho Cordova. Our neighborhood is stuck in the middle, not in Sac City and not Rancho Cordova. So we get ignored on both sides

Rancho has already shown that they view the unincorporated areas as unimportant under CRPD, an organization that is as much ours as it is theirs. I don't see how joining Rancho - and mingling even more services - would suddenly change things, but more importantly, it shouldn't. Just because it has the word "Cordova" in its title, shouldn't mean that they can consistently take our funds and use them improving parks many miles away, which most of us won't likely even use, and not provide the appropriate service to us. A more localized park district might have a better impact for the parks in our area, if you ask me. Obviously we wouldn't have as much money to pull from, but at least we'd know where the money was going, and personally I think it would help our parks much more, simply by ensuring that those dollars are used more locally. It certainly couldn't hurt our parks any more than what we are seeing at this time, especially because CRPD has lost its original purpose and seemingly now feels it is an exclusively Rancho organization - which it is not. Of course, you wouldn't know that after reading the plan mentioned above.

I voted against going into Rancho and Sacramento in the past, and I would vote against it again. The way not to get ignored is to take our money and take care of our own parks. I am sure that there are many landscaping companies that would be more than happy to do the work for far less that what CRPD is taking from us: and there would be to S & B to have to cover.

Cudos Brad for explaining it perfectly, although you will probably be labeled as being "oh so negative" about everything. You covered every point perfectly as to how CRPD feels about our area.

Negative? Meh, perhaps. But I actually see a positive outcome to the current situation, not a negative one. That is, provided we are willing and capable of making the appropriate changes which now appear to be long overdue. If CRPD doesn't want to recognize that the unincorporated areas comprise a population well over 50% the size of the city of Rancho Cordova, well, perhaps we need to remind them. Or, as a more ambitious project, just fire them altogether. Not giving us our due in this so-called "Master" plan, is a slap in the face.
