A Busload of Turkeys

The Sacramento County Probation Department donated more than 400 turkeys last week.

The Sacramento County Probation Department more than quadrupled its goal Friday, donating 476 turkeys to the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services.

The department , but far exceeded that number, county spokeswoman Kerri Aiello said.

"Thanksgiving artwork created and displayed by youth spurred a competition between divisions that raised enough to buy 200 turkeys, well above the original goal," Aiello wrote in a press release.

That donation was then matched by Sacramento County Supervisor Phil Serna.

“It was hard to ignore the extraordinary generosity and enthusiasm of Probation staff to help local families in need during the holidays,” the release quoted Serna as saying.
